Ruth Barker
is an
artist based in Glasgow. Not bound to a specific discipline her work
investigates narrative construction and the balance between the written
word and a visual image. Recent exhibitions include The Self As
Knower Does Not Know The Self As Known, Glasgow Projects Rooms.
Along with her invited guest, Niall MacDonald, both artists
recently published Placed Upon the Horizon; A Permanent Public
Artwork, a collections of transcripts of interviews between
the artists and specialists in the public art arena. The piece is
indicative of their collaborative practice and explores the written word
as documentation of the spoken word, a shift in context, authorship and
communication. McDonald's recent exhibition includes As Kingfishers
Catch Fire, Glasgow Sculpture Studios. Both were also founding
members of the collective Something Haptic, whose recent exhibitions
include Siege
and Counter Siege,
Hotel Mariakapel, Hoorn, Netherlands, Faktura, Market Gallery for
the Glasgow International 2006.
